Resveratrol helps the skin.

In 1997, researchers concluded that applying resveratrol to mouse skin decreased the risk of developing skin cancers by 98 percent. This discovery led to a worldwide study on the compound that continues to be awe-inspiring. In the last few weeks, researchers from UCLA added another benefit that resveratrol plays in the face.

Resveratrol is a powerful antioxidant that slows the growth of acne-causing bacteria.

Dr. Emma Taylor's team discovered that resveratrol enhanced the effects of acne medication used to treat bacterium that causes acne (Dermatology and Therapy, DOI: 10.1007/s13555-014-0063-0). Researchers assessed the bacteria's death rate through treatment with Benzoyl Peroxide the acne treatment.

The researchers found that the bacteria did end up dying from the treatment, however the effect of the treatment was only for an hour. Researchers were also able to treat the bacteria using the chemical resveratrol. They found that it didn't necessarily result in the death of the bacterium which causes acne, but it did slow the growth of the bacterium for several days. The researchers identified this as a long-lasting result.

The researchers then examined the effects of a combination treatment containing benzoyl peroxide and resveratrol, and observed a dramatic decrease in the growth of bacteria as well as growth in destruction of bacteria. Super Micronized Resveratrol could be an alternative treatment for treating acne.
